Ellis Shuttle Services LLC provides non-emergency medical transportation across Florida for seniors, wheelchair users and anyone who needs a dependable ride to medical care. Drivers walk you inside, help with paperwork and wait with you as long as it takes, then drive you home.
Insurance or Out of Pocket?
The first question most families ask is who pays for the ride. Many Ellis clients come through insurance referrals or workers’ comp claims, and many find the company through its NPI, the national provider number that health plans use to look up providers. Others choose to pay out of pocket.
Coverage for non-emergency medical transportation depends on your health plan or the terms of your claim. Check with your plan, case manager or adjuster before your first ride so you know what’s covered. If you pay yourself, Ellis takes all major credit cards through Square, plus cash, Zelle and Cash App.
How Private Pay Rides Began
Paying privately is how the business grew. Henry Ellis started driving his wife to dialysis in 2017, after other rides showed up late or in the wrong vehicle. Friends of hers on dialysis had the same complaints about unreliable drivers, so they began asking Henry for rides and paid out of pocket by choice.
That same idea guides the company today: you matter, and the ride should feel that way. Ellis is based in Gainesville and serves clients statewide.

ER Discharge and Group Trips
For five to six years, Ellis Shuttle Services has held a contract with UF Health Shands Hospital to handle ER patient discharges, 24 hours a day. Learn more about hospital ER discharge transportation and how a driver gets you home after a long night.
The same shuttle bus handles airport and group transportation, from airport to hotel transfers to group rides for nine or ten people traveling together.
What Affects the Cost of a Ride
The price of a medical ride depends on the trip itself. These are the usual factors in non-emergency medical transportation pricing:
- Distance, especially for trips to another city
- Vehicle type: the wheelchair-accessible shuttle bus or a sedan
- How long the driver waits at your appointment
- Round trip or one way
- Whether insurance, workers’ comp or you are paying
